Founders Mentality - Our read of the season!

Here at B23 we're always interested in reading material that will ensure our future success. For this article we wanted to share with you 'The Founders Mentality' by Chris Zook & James Allen. It is so interesting and no matter where you are as a company, whether it be starting out or well established, this is a must read.  Special thanks to Bain & Co as well who we have been lucky enough to see first hand and understand the benefits of a Founders Mentality. Their insight is invaluable and you can get a great understanding of it through their eyes on the internet.  The best way to introduce you to this mentality is to say that it's about how companies can combat the Growth Paradox, but what does that mean? Just 1 in 9 companies achieve sustained profitable growth over 10 years. 85% of executives blame that on internal factors. Put simply, Growth creates complexity and complexity kills growth.   Every company sets out as what we call an 'Insurgent'. They...

Diversity & Inclusion

Diversity and Inclusion has grown in recent years and is worth far more to businesses that understand it well. Long gone are the days where companies thinking that a simple annual survey ticked this box and therefore the job was done.  Respecting the unique needs, perspectives and potential of all team members will result in a workforce that trusts the employer and subsequently, their commitment strengthens. This puts the organisation ahead of its competitors, it benefits from lower absence & attrition and attracts the right people, who more than ever before, are putting a real value on companies that recognise it.  Our favourite saying is 'I'm not different from you, I'm different like you' because we are all different and this is a really good thing.  We all have different personalities and we respond to different stimulus. What motivates one person doesn't necessarily motivate another. Similarly, how one person feels recognised is different to another. Compan...

The myth buster article - Why is B23 different?

Have you thought about a career in direct sales but found yourself being put off? Either from your own concerns or those of your close friends and relatives? We're not surprised!  Unfortunately companies have different standards and maybe don't do things as well as they could. Here at B23 we pride ourselves on industry leading standards and we want to share with you why B23 is different. In a world with ever increasing challenges to retail and hospitality, a career in direct sales can be incredibly rewarding. Not only from a financial perspective but a career progression one as well.  Let's start with explaining what Direct Sales is.  Direct  Selling is a method of  marketing  and retailing goods or services directly to consumers, through personal contact, away from permanent retail premises. Most direct sales companies adopt a 'Multi Level Marketing' type structure.  Now let's get the biggest myth out of the way. Multi level marketing is not a pyramid...

What do we look for in a Brand Ambassador? - Part Two

One of our core values here at B23 is 'Work Ethic'. What we mean by this, is having a positive attitude toward your learning and development. That's why we always state on our job adverts that no experience in direct sales is required. We will teach you the systems you need to be successful, we just need you to be reliable, punctual and maintain what we call a 'student mentality'.  We see it time and time again, candidates with the best work ethic go on to achieve a much higher rate of success, not only in their career but in their personal life as well.  Are you the type of person who got up, showered and dressed every morning during lockdown? Do you make your bed every morning? Do you put aside time to maintain a healthy diet and fitness regime?  These are the things that demonstrate your attitude to life. They may not seem like big things but they do make a difference. We've all accepted that we had days in lockdown where we just couldn't adult. We wanted...

What do we look for in a Brand Ambassador? - Part One

If you're interested in a career in Direct Sales then you'll want to know what qualities a Company like B23 looks for in potential candidates. This is too much to cover in one article so we're going to break it down into parts that are much easier to digest.  To answer this question, it's prudent to start with an easier one first - What makes those that have been successful in the organisation so accomplished? By scoping the answer to that, it's easier to work backwards and therefore clearly define what qualities we are looking for at the recruitment stage. When we did this piece of work, the most important element that came out, was that you need to be Goal Oriented .  Being goal oriented is a huge benefit to not only your professional life, but your personal one as well. However it's not enough to dream about what life may be like in the future. There's a big difference between someone who has an understanding of what they want from life and someone who is...

Does Lockdown mean your business has to stop? How to survive a pandemic!

It's true that every challenge also presents you with an opportunity. Here at B23, we didn't want a pandemic to stop us from achieving our goals, instead we just had to rearrange them to see what could still be achieved.  A lot of direct sales marketing companies made the mistake of downing tools completely and focused purely on retention of their best people. Whilst this is so important, there were a number of things we identified that we knew we had to maintain focus on.  By far one of the most crucial elements was Recruitment. We knew we had the ability to move our world class sales coaching online. This gave us the opportunity to recruit just as aggressively as if the office was open. 2020 had already taught us to embrace technology and move the various stages of our recruitment process to platforms like Zoom. Our Open Days, 2nd interviews and Inductions had all already moved across.  Embracing online conferencing actually improved our networking ability. We're lucky ...
